The City of Long Beach is a coastal city in Southern California. With a community of 462,081 residents, it is recognized as one of the most demographically diverse cities in America. It is also one of the largest buyers in the region, spending $2.6 billion every year.

With a not-so-small purchase threshold of $25,000 and nearly 6,000 government employees, the City makes most of its purchases through informal credit card swiping.

The surge of Covid-19 increased pressure on the City to come up with innovative and fast ways to counter the impact on the economy, especially on small, local, and diverse businesses.
